Gill Joins the Board - Aberdeenshire Housing Partnership (AHP)

AHP welcome on board their new member Gill Mathieson, who like other AHP Board members is giving up her own time to support the work of the Partnership.

Gill will be sharing her expertise with AHP in a variety of ways. Tenant's Newsletter asked Gill to tell us a bit more about her life and why she decided to become a Board member.

Here's what she said: "Born and brought up in Aberdeen, I went to Aberdeen University and studied geology. From there I spent three years in Canada before moving back to the UK and returning to University in Sheffield. I then worked for seven years as a geologist for a refractory company which produced materials for high-temperature environments, such as kilns, steel smelters etc."

"After this, I changed direction completely and became a volunteer at my local Citizen's Advice Bureau before embarking on a career as a money advice worker. This eventually brought me back to Aberdeen where I was deputy manager at Aberdeen CAB for seven years before taking up my current post as Chief Executive of Grampian Credit Union, which is a savings and loans co-operative operating across the north-east of Scotland with more than 2,200 members. My work at GCU and my time at CAB have made me aware that many people - through no fault of their own - face serious financial challenges."

"Providing affordable housing is one way to alleviate some of their money problems, and this is why I decided to volunteer to help AHP with its work in the sector. I'm now really looking forward to getting involved. On the personal side, I live in Aberdeenshire with my son and our cat. I play golf, go skiing and enjoy salsa dancing. I'm also a mad knitter and even knit in public!"
